The honest version

Your data

Plenty of apps say “your data never leaves your phone” when that isn’t quite true. Here’s exactly what happens to what you log, in plain words. The formal version is the privacy policy.

In short: it's stored in your own encrypted account, in Sydney. Patterns are found on your phone. No AI reads it, nobody buys it, and your clinician sees only what you choose to hand them.

Where it lives

In your own encrypted account, in Australia. Your entries are stored in a database in Sydney, walled off so no other user can reach them, and nobody who isn't signed in as you. That's also how your record survives a lost phone.
Patterns are found on your phone. What moves with what, day-of-week patterns, what follows a poor night: all of it is worked out in the app. Once a week the database also refreshes your baseline, your normal, inside your own account. Nothing is sent anywhere else to be analysed.
Your clinician sees only what you give them. The report is made on your phone, and you decide who gets it. Symetric never sends it anywhere on its own.
You can lock it. Set an optional PIN, and someone picking up your phone still can't open symetric. Only a scrambled version of the PIN is stored, never the PIN itself.

What never happens

No AI reads your entries. Nothing you log is sent to a language model, or to anyone else, to be interpreted. How AI was used to build symetric.
It never labels you. Symetric shows what changed and when. It doesn't suggest a diagnosis, or read a condition into your data.
Never sold, and no ads. Your health information goes to one place, the database that stores it. The services that send your reminders and sign-in emails never see it.
Reminders don't say anything about you. They only say a check-in is ready. They pass through Expo, Apple and Google to reach your phone, with none of your health information in them.
No tracking of what you log. The app counts how it's used, like which screens get opened and whether a check-in was finished, so we can see what's working. Never your scores, symptoms or patterns, and never your screen. Turn it off any time in Settings. And no access to your location, camera, contacts, Apple Health, Google Fit or a wearable.

Who else can see it

A small number of named people can open entries, and only to answer a support request you’ve made, fix a fault, or keep the service secure. Every one of those accesses is logged. That’s the honest answer most apps leave out.

Taking it with you, or leaving

Export everything. One JSON file or a set of CSV files, from Settings, any time.
Delete a period. Remove any stretch of dates you don't want on the record.
Reset your baseline when your normal genuinely changes, so patterns are measured against who you are now.
Delete your account. Everything is permanently removed: entries, patterns, markers and appointment records. Encrypted backups expire within 7 days, and after that nothing can be recovered. The details.

Why this page exists

What you log is health information, the most protected kind under Australian privacy law, and the kind you’d least want mishandled. So rather than asking you to trust “we take privacy seriously”, this page says exactly what happens.
